This felt picture was made using the wet felting method. In order to make it so detailed, I first had to needle felt the wool and silk fibres into position so they would not move around too much during the wet felting process. When the felt was dry I added free machine stitching to outline the main parts of the picture and add the windows. I also added lots of hand embroidery for the flowers, climbers and tiny sheep on the headland. To represent the stained glass in the church windows I added some needle lace.
The scene shows a coastal village complete with quirky little houses and the village church. Across the bay, there are more houses perched on a cliff and a small flock of sheep grazing. I have included streaks of silk fibres in the sky and sea to make them shimmer.
The artwork comes already mounted on an artist’s canvas and is ready to hang on receipt. It does not need to be framed as wet felted fabric is very strong. The felt goes right around the sides of the canvas so it will look good from any angle.
